Today we will be making some Rustic & Delicious Homemade Cheddar Dill Bread! In particular, we will be making Cheddar Dill Bread Bowls, which can be used for soup or salad! Cheddar Dill Bread

Cheddar Dill Bread on a Flour Sack Towel

Soft & Cheesy on the inside and Crispy on the outside, this Cheddar Dill Bread works great for Sandwiches, with Soup or Salad! This recipe makes 2 nice size round loaves, or Boule, of bread. You can also cut the recipe into 4 portions to make small soup or salad Bread Bowls!

10 Prep Time 10 minutes
Rise Time 1 hour
Bake Time 20 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 Cups Flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp Yeast (or 1 Packet, Active Yeast)
  • 1 1/2 Tbl Sugar
  • 2 tsp Dill Weed
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Warm Water (@ 120 Degrees)
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese (Shredded)
  • Additional 1/2 Cup Flour (for Final Mixing)

Instructions

  1. Add Dry ingredients (Flour, Yeast, Sugar, Dill Weed & Salt) into mixing bowl of a Stand Mixer. Then pour in the Warm Water.
  2. Mix on Medium Speed until a sticky dough results.
  3. Add the Cheddar Cheese and mix until cheese is incorporated into the dough.
  4. Finally add 1/2 Cup of Flour and mix until a soft dough is formed.
  5. Place Cheddar Dill Dough into an Olive Oil greased Bowl and cover with a towel. Let Rise for @ 30 min.
  6. Turn out the Cheddar Dill Dough onto a floured surface and knead until a smooth dough ball results.
  7. Cut Dough in half to make 2 Round Loaves (or cut into smaller portions for Bread Bowls or Dinner Rolls).
  8. Place Cheddar Dill Dough Portions into their own separate Olive Oil greased Bowls and cover with a towel. Let Rise for @ 30 min.
  9. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees. If using an Oven Stone, place Stove in oven as preheating.
  10. Place the Cheddar Dill Bread Portions onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, flat sheet or peel for transferring onto Oven Stone. You can also Bake the Cheddar Dill Bread on a Cookie Sheet if you do not have an Oven Stone.
  11. Using a Bread Lame, Kitchen Shears or Sharp Knife, make some cuts into the skin of the dough of desired pattern. The deeper you cut, the wider the split/expansion will result once baked.
  12. Bake the Cheddar Dill Bread at 375 Degrees for 20-30 min or until the Golden-Brown color of choice & a hollow tap is heard from the bottom of the loaf when tapped with your finger.
  13. Allow to cool slightly on a cooling rack.
  14. Enjoy!
