Prep Time (with 10 min Knead Time) 25 minutes
Rise Time 2 hours
Bake Time 20 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Buttermilk (1 Cup Milk + 1 Tbl Vinegar, mix & set aside 10 min)
  • 1/4 Cup Butter (1/2 Stick)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 "Eggs" (See Below for How to Make a Chia Egg & Flax Egg)
  • 1/2 Cup Simple Syrup or Canned Pear Juice! (1/2 Cup Sugar + 1/8 Sugar, mix until sugar is dissolved)
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active Yeast (or 1 Packet)
  • 4 - 5 Cups Flour (All-Purpose)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar

Instructions

  1. Slightly stir together the Buttermilk, Butter & Vanilla in a glass bowl or measuring cup. Place in Microwave and heat @ 20 sec to warm & slightly melt butter, set aside.
  2. Combine Chia Seeds / Ground Flaxseed with water to create Egg Substitutes if following No Egg Recipe & set aside 5 min. If not, whisk 2 eggs in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Mix Sugar & Water to create Simple Syrup or use Canned Pear Juice and place into glass bowl or measuring cup. Place in Microwave and heat @ 30 sec to warm mixture to @ 110 Degrees. Add Yeast, stir slightly & set aside to allow Yeast to bloom (froth) - takes @ 5 min.
  4. Place 4 Cups of Flour into large mixing bowl & add all above wet ingredients. Mix well to create a shaggy dough.
  5. Turn out Hawaiian Roll Dough onto a floured surface, adding flour as necessary to keep dough from being too sticky. Knead for 10 min. (You can also use your KitchenAid stand mixer with the dough hook and knead the dough that way for 10 min).
  6. Once a smooth and soft dough ball is achieved, place the Hawaiian Roll Dough back into a greased large mixing bowl (a neutral oil such as Avocado Oil works well) and lightly grease the top of the dough ball as well. Cover with a towel and let rise for 30 min - 1 hour (until about double in size).
  7. Divide Hawaiian Roll Dough into portion & shape desired for Dinner Rolls or Slider Buns and place onto a baking sheet, re-cover with towel and let rise another 30 min - 1 hour (until about double in size).
  8. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees.
  9. Bake Hawaiian Rolls at 375 Degrees for 15 - 20 min or until Golden Brown on top.
  10. Place Rolls onto a cooling rack to cool slightly.
  11. You can brush the tops of the Hawaiian Rolls with melted butter or simply enjoy as is!
