Dutch Apple Scones
Dutch Apple Scones are a Flavorful Treat to make. A Hot Beverage with a Fresh Baked Apple Cinnamon Scone...how Wonderful!
Ingredients
Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough
- 4 Cups Flour (all-purpose)
- 4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Cinnamon
- 2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup Butter (2 Sticks) (Cold & Cubed)
- 1 Cup Buttermilk (*see Notes below)
- 2 Eggs
- 2 Apples (Peeled, Cored & Cut into Desired Size Pieces)
Dutch Crumble Topping
- 1/4 Cup Butter (1/2 Stick) (Melted)
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Flour (all-purpose)
Instructions
- Place Dry Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough Ingredients into a mixing bowl (Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Cinnamon & Brown Sugar). Mix to combine.
- Cut in the Butter until Pea Size pieces of Butter result.
- Add the Buttermilk, Egg & Prepared Apple Pieces and fold into the mixture to create the Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough.
- Pour the Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough onto a piece of Plastic Wrap on a Small Cutting Board or Cookie Sheet. Wrap the Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough into the Plastic Wrap and form into a disc shape about 1" thick.
- Chill the Wrapped & Shaped Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough in the Refrigerator about 20 min as you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
- Combine in a small bowl the Dutch Crumble Topping ingredients (Melted Butter, Brown Sugar & Flour). Stir until a Crumbly Mixture results. Set aside.
- Remove the Chilled Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough from the Refrigerator and sprinkle the top with Flour, then flip and place the Floured side Scone Dough onto a work surface.
- Sprinkle the new top side of the Chilled Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough with the prepared Dutch Crumble Topping and gently press the Topping into the Dough.
- Cut the Dutch Apple Scone Dough into desired Size & Shape Scones. Place the Dutch Apple Scones onto a Baking Pan.
- Bake Prepared Dutch Apple Scones at 400 Degrees for 20-22 min or until Golden Brown.
- Cool the Dutch Apple Scones on a Cooling Rack for 10 min before serving.
- Enjoy these Rustic Treats with a Warm Beverage!
Notes
- Need Buttermilk in a Pinch? Combine 1 Cup Milk with 1 Tbl Vinegar, mix and set aside for about 10 min!
- Optional: Add a few Tbl - 1/4 Cup Flour to the Apple Cinnamon Scone Dough before folding in the Apples if you feel the dough is too moist to work with.
