These Homemade Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs are a Classic for the Easter Basket and similar to those that you can find in the stores. But when you make them Homemade, you can control the ingredients & easily make any shape or size you want!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Peanut Butter Filling Set Time in Freezer 1 hour
Chocolate Coating Set Time in Freezer 20 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 25 minutes

Ingredients

Peanut Butter Filling

  • 1 Cup Peanut Butter (or Nut Butter / Allergy-Friendly “Nut” Butter of choice) (*see Notes below)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (or Powdered Sugar Substitute)
  • 1/8 tsp Salt (Optional)

Chocolate Coating

  • 2 Cups Chocolate Chips

Instructions

    1. Mix Peanut Butter (or Nut Butter of choice), Powdered Sugar & Salt (optional) in a Stand Mixer or Mixing Bowl to form a dry cookie dough like Peanut Butter Mixture consistency. (*see Notes below)
    2. Form the Peanut Butter Mixture into the desired size flattened ovals or “Egg” Shapes. (*see Notes below)
    3. Place the Peanut Butter Eggs onto a parchment paper lined Baking Pan and Freeze @ 1 hr or until firm.
    4. Once the Peanut Butter Eggs have firmed up in the freezer, prepare the Chocolate Coating.
    5. Melt Chocolate Chips in a Double Boiler (or in the Microwave - 20 sec then stir, repeating as necessary until the Chocolate is melted and smooth). Remove from heat once the Chocolate is melted and smooth.
    6. Take one Peanut Butter Egg at a time & dip into the Melted Chocolate to coat, using a Candy Strainer or Fork. Place the Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs back onto the Baking Pan once coated.
    7. When all of the Peanut Butter Eggs are Chocolate Covered and on the parchment paper lined Baking Pan, place them back into the freezer to harden the Chocolate Coating (@ 20 min or until the Chocolate is firm).
    8. Place Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs into separate Cellophane bags & label with stickers if desired. (*see Notes below)
    9. Enjoy or Share as a Sweet Treat, Easter Basket Addition or Party Favor!

Notes

    • The Classic Pairing of Peanut Butter & Chocolate Is Wonderful in this Homemade Candy - Reese's Eggs. You can also try other Nut Butter Flavors to adjust for dietary preference or allergies!
    • Different Nut Butters will yield different consistencies, so if the "Peanut Butter" Filling Mixture is too soft & gooey, add a Tbl or two of additional Powdered Sugar. If it’s too dry, add a Tbl or two of "Peanut Butter."
    • Transfer the Peanut Butter Filling Mixture into a Zip Top Bag, mold it into a flat disc and place the Bag into the Refrigerator for 15 min to help it become more workable if necessary.
    • You can make whatever shaped Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter candy treat you’d like. Perhaps Hearts for Valentine’s Day or Trees for Christmas!
    • These Homemade Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs store nicely in an airtight container, or double bagged, in the freezer until ready to enjoy or share!
