Lemon Poppy Seed Scones with a Lemon Glaze

Homemade Lemon Poppy Seed Scones Recipe

These Lemon Poppy Seed Scones are a Bright & Lemony Treat to enjoy, and the Lemon Glaze gives these not overly sweet scones a little added sweetness & lemon flavor!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Bake Time (400 Degrees) 15 minutes
Cooling Time 20 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 3 Tbl Sugar
  • 1 Tbl Poppy Seeds
  • 1 Tbl Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Cup (1 Stick) Butter (Cold, Coarsely Chopped)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/4 Cup Lemon Juice (Fresh)

Lemon Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar (Sifted)
  • 1 Tbl Lemon Juice (Fresh)

Instructions

  1. Combine all Dry Ingredients (Flour, Sugar, Poppy Seeds, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Salt & Butter) into a Mixing Bowl or Stand Mixer Bowl.
  2. Using a Pastry Cutter if mixing by hand or in a Stand Mixer, Cut/Mix Dry Ingredients until the Butter becomes nice small pea size pieces in the mixture.
  3. Stir in Wet Ingredients (Heavy Cream & Lemon Juice) until a dough forms.
  4. Gather the dough & spread onto a Parchment Paper lined surface or pastry mat to create an 8" dough disc.
  5. Cut the Lemon Poppy Seed Scone Dough Disc into 8 Wedges or shape of choice.
  6. Transfer the Lemon Poppy Seed Scones onto a Parchment Paper lined Baking Sheet, spacing the scones about 1" apart.
  7. Bake the Lemon Poppy Seed Scones at 400 Degrees x 15 min or until golden brown & a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the Lemon Poppy Seed Scones on a Cooling Rack about 20 min & Drizzle the Scones once cooled with prepared Lemon Glaze. (*see Notes below)
  9. Enjoy!

Notes

  • To Prepare the Lemon Glaze, Combine the Powdered Sugar & Lemon Juice and mix until a nice smooth glaze consistency result.
