How to Make Homemade Tortillas | Easy Flour Tortillas Made Fresh!

These Homemade Tortillas are great for Tacos, Enchiladas, Burritos, Quesadillas & even as a nice base for a Tortilla Pizza.

Homemade Tortillas

Homemade Flour Tortillas in a Tortilla Keeper

Today we will be making some EASY Homemade Flour Tortillas! These Homemade Tortillas are great for Tacos, Enchiladas, Burritos, Quesadillas & even as a nice base for a Tortilla Pizza.

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 1 minute 30 seconds
Total Time 21 minutes 30 seconds

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/3 Cup Neutral Flavored Oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Vegetable Oil are nice options)
  • 1 Cup Warm Water

Instructions

  1. Add Dry ingredients (Flour, Salt & Baking Powder) in a bowl and mix to combine.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the wet ingredients (Oil & Water).
  3. Mix together to create a shaggy dough ball.
  4. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 1-2 min until the dough becomes smooth.
  5. Divide dough into desired sized portions and roll portions into a ball shape (Tacos @ 16, golf ball sized portions).
  6. Place dough balls into bowl and cover with towel. Let rest for @ 20 min.
  7. Heat Skillet or Cast Iron Pan on Stovetop over Medium High Heat.
  8. Roll out Tortilla Dough Balls on lightly floured surface to a thin Tortilla thickness.
  9. Place Tortilla onto heated pan, cooking on 1st side @ 1 min (until bubbles form on the surface) then flip and cook another @ 30 sec on the 2nd side.
  10. Brown spots will have formed on the 1st side and once the 2nd side creates some brown spots too, it can be removed from the pan.
  11. Place cooked Homemade Tortillas in a Tortilla Keeper, Steamer Basket, Covered Casserole Dish or in a Bowl with a Towel Covering it to help keep the Tortillas warm, soft & steamed until ready to eat.
  12. Continue to roll out & cook Tortillas until all of the Tortilla Dough Balls are cooked.
  13. Enjoy!

Want fresh tortilla chips? Simply cut the tortilla shells to desired size & bake or fry them for Homemade Tortilla Chips!
