Steam Juicing & Canning Homemade Apple & Grape Juice
By using our Steam Juicer, we are able to take fresh Apples & Grapes (as well as all the Apple peelings & scraps from the previous Apple Harvest Projects this year) and make some beautiful & delicious Homemade Apple & Grape Juice for our pantry shelf
Ingredients
- Apples / Grapes and or Apple / Grape Peels (The More the Better!)
- Water [For Keeping the Bottom Section of Steam Juicer Filled Throughout Process]
- 1/2 – 1 Cup Sugar (Optional, per Batch)
Instructions
- Fill Bottom Section of Steam Juicer with Water, up to the Max Fill Line. Place onto Stovetop on Medium High Heat to Continually Boil the water.
- Place Middle Section of Steam Juicer, Tubing and Top Section of Steam Juicer.
- Add Apples / Grapes (Cored) and or Apple / Grape Peels to Top Section of Steam Juicer and place Cover onto section. Add Sugar (Optional) to the Apples / Grapes or Peels.
- Allow Apples / Grapes or Peels to Steam Juice and once enough Juice is created in the Middle Section of the Steam Juicer, you can begin adding the Juice to Jars. Quart Jars work well.
- Continue to add Apple / Grape Juice to jars as it is created & accumulates in the Middle Section. It takes about 1 hour per batch to create enough juice for adding to the jars.
- Continually check Bottom Section of Steam Juicer & add water as necessary, keeping the level up so that it can create the steam needed to complete the steam juicing process!
- Once all the Apple / Grape Juice is in their Jars, with a 1/4" headspace, wipe rims of jars and place lid/ring on each jar, finger tightening the ring.
- Place jars into water bath canner for processing, making sure water covers the jars by an inch or two. The minimum processing time is 10 min; add time as necessary based on your altitude.
- Once processing is complete, let the jars sit in the water bath canner for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a towel/dish drying mat for 12-24 hours for cooling and sealing. Listen for the pings as they seal!
- After 12-24 hours, you can remove the rings, making sure the jars all sealed, label jars and place in a cool, dry place for storage. 50-70 degrees is optimal.
- If any jars did not seal, place them in the refrigerator for enjoying now!
Notes
- Sugar is optional in this juicing project. I find adding a ½ cup of sugar with the Apple peels or 1 cup of Sugar to the Grapes helps to give the juice the little extra flavor it needs!
Homemade Apple & Grape Juice stores for an extended period of time & can be used throughout the year for a yummy beverage or for adding to recipes! Warm Apple Juice / Cider or perhaps oatmeal made with this Apple Juice on a cold fall or winter day anyone? Grape Juice can also be used for Ice Pops on a Hot Day!
This wonderfully simple way to preserve Apple & Grape Juice is such an easy Process to follow, with the right equipment. The end result is a clean & fresh tasting homemade juice you just can’t find in the store!
