By using our Steam Juicer, we are able to take fresh pears (as well as all the pear peelings & scraps from the previous Pear Harvest Projects this year) and make some beautiful & delicious Homemade Pear Juice for our pantry shelf!

Prep Time 20 minutes
Steam Juicing Time (Per Batch) 1 hour
Water Bath Processing Time 10 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Pears &/or Pear Peels (The More the Better!)
  • Water [For Keeping the Bottom Section of Steam Juicer Filled Throughout Process]
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar (Optional, per Batch)

Instructions

  1. Fill Bottom Section of Steam Juicer with Water, up to the Max Fill Line. Place onto Stovetop on Medium High Heat to Continually Boil the water.
  2. Place Middle Section of Steam Juicer, Tubing and Top Section of Steam Juicer.
  3. Add Pears (Cored) &/or Pear Peels to Top Section of Steam Juicer and place Cover onto section. Add Sugar (Optional) to the Pears/Peels.
  4. Allow Pears/Peels to Steam Juice and once enough Juice is created in the Middle Section of the Steam Juicer, you can begin adding the Juice to Jars. Quart Jars work well.
  5. Continue to add Pear Juice to jars as it is created & accumulates in the Middle Section. It takes about 1 hour per batch to create enough juice for adding to the jars.
  6. Continually check Bottom Section of Steam Juicer & add water as necessary, keeping the level up so that it can create the steam needed to complete the steam juicing process!
  7. Once all the Pear Juice is in their Jars, with a 1" headspace, wipe rims of jars and place lid/ring on each jar, finger tightening the ring.
  8. Place jars into water bath canner for processing, making sure water covers the jars by an inch or two. The minimum processing time is 10 min; add time as necessary based on your altitude.
  9. Once processing is complete, let the jars sit in the water bath canner for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a towel/dish drying mat for 12-24 hours for cooling and sealing. Listen for the pings as they seal!
  10. After 12-24 hours, you can remove the rings, making sure the jars all sealed, label jars and place in a cool, dry place for storage. 50-70 degrees is optimal.
  11. If any jars did not seal, place them in the refrigerator for enjoying now!

Notes

Sugar is optional in this juicing project. I find adding a 1/2 cup of sugar with the peels helps to give the juice the little extra flavor it needs!

Pear Juice stores for an extended period of time & can be used throughout the year for a yummy beverage or for adding to recipes! Warm Pear Juice / Cider or perhaps oatmeal made with this Pear Juice on a cold fall or winter day anyone?

This wonderfully sweet way to preserve pear Juice is such an easy Process to follow, with the right equipment. The end result is a clean & fresh tasting pear juice you just can’t find in the store!
