Beef Bone Broth Recipe | Making Homemade Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock – Step 1

Today we will be making a great soup or recipe base item, Beef Bone Broth or Beef Stock! Together we will go over the recipe for Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock & how you can easily make it in a Nesco Roaster Oven. This makes a nice big batch of Beef Bone Broth, which can then be refrigerated, frozen, or as I plan to do, Pressure Canned. Watch for Step 2 of the process for more info on the Pressure Canning of Beef Bone Broth! This Pantry Staple works great in creating some Hearty Soups as well as helps to add wonderful flavor to recipes & gravy!

This is a great way to use up produce or items from the garden that might not have been perfect looking when harvested! You can also keep vegetable scraps, from recipes as you cook, in a freezer bag & in the freezer for use in projects like this!

Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock Recipe

Beef Bone Broth Recipe ingredients and Nesco Roaster Oven

This Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock Recipe makes a nice big batch, which can then be refrigerated, frozen, or as I plan to do, Pressure Canned. Watch for Step 2 of the process for more info on the Pressure Canning of Beef Bone Broth! This Pantry Staple works great in creating some Hearty Soups as well as helps to add wonderful flavor to recipes & gravy!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 1 day
Total Time 1 day 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 5-6 lbs Beef Soup Bones
  • Onion Peels & Vegetable Scraps (If available)
  • 4 Onions (or @ 1 lb) (Cut onions in half if large)
  • 4 Carrots (or @ 1 lb) (Washed & cut in half if large)
  • 6 Whole Cloves of Garlic
  • 2 Tbl Salt (Canning)
  • 1 Tbl Whole Pepper Corns
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • Water to Cover all of the Above

Instructions

  1. Place Beef Soup Bones on a baking pan and Roast/Brown Beef Soup Bones in the oven at 425 Degrees for 30 min. This will give the Beef Soup Bones a nice dark color & intensify the flavors!
  2. Now place the Beef Soup Bones into the cooking reservoir of a Nesco Roaster oven then add all the remaining ingredients.
  3. Add enough Water to completely cover all of the ingredients and stir slightly.
  4. Place cover on Nesco Roaster Oven & Cook Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock at 250 Degrees for 16-48 hours (@ 24 hours works well).
  5. Once cook time is completed, turn off Nesco Roaster Oven and remove lid. Allow Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock to cool slightly.
  6. Using a Hand Strainer, remove Vegetables, Bay Leaves, Bones & Meat (Save the meat for other recipes!).
  7. Use a Fat Separator & Stainless Steel Mesh Strainer to help strain away smaller food particles and to help remove excess fat from the Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock as necessary.
  8. Store the Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock into airtight containers in the refrigerator for about a week or in the freezer for about 3-6 months.
  9. Or you can follow the Step 2 process of Pressure Canning this Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock for storing with a longer shelf life in your pantry!
  10. Enjoy this Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock as a soup base, for recipes or adding great flavor to gravy!

Notes

This recipe is easily prepared in the 18 Quart Nesco Roaster Oven. But you could also make this Beef Bone Broth / Beef Stock on the stovetop in a Dutch Oven or in the 6 Quart Nesco Roaster Oven for smaller batches!
