Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Fresh or Frozen Cranberries
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • Zest of 1 Orange (without the white pith)

Instructions

  1. Finely mince or chop the Cranberries (a food processor works well for this) until small pieces. Set aside.
  2. Pour the Water & Sugar into a Saucepan and stir until the Sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add all the remaining ingredients (Cranberries, Cinnamon Stick & Orange Zest) and stir until combined.
  4. Bring the Holiday Spice Simple Syrup Mixture to a Simmer and continue to Simmer 20 min, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or scorching.
  5. Once the Holiday Spice Simple Syrup has reduced & thickened, remove the Saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature for about 1 hour.
  6. Remove the Cinnamon Stick & strain the Holiday Spice Simple Syrup through a mesh strainer into your desired bottle for storage. (*see Notes below)
  7. This Holiday Spice Simple Syrup stores well in the Refrigerator about 2-3 weeks.
  8. Enjoy this Festive Flavored Simple Syrup in Baked Goods & Beverages, especially during the Holidays & New Year's!

Notes

  • You can save the scraps left after straining the Holiday Spice Simple Syrup to create a Cranberry Spice Chutney! This tastes nice spread over Baked Brie or served on a Charcuterie Board - Yum!
